What is the main function of a computer’s processor?

􀀃A central processing unit (CPU), also called a central processor, main processor or just processor, is the electronic circuitry that executes instructions comprising a computer program. The CPU performs basic arithmetic, logic, controlling, and input/output (I/O) operations specified by the instructions in the program.

What unit of frequency is used to measure processor speed?

The clock speed measures the number of cycles your CPU executes per second, measured in GHz (gigahertz).

What does RAM stand for?

RAM is short for Random Access Memory, which is a feature that allows your computer to temporarily store data for quick access. As we all know, operating system, apps, and various personal files are stored on hard drives.

When the CPU needs to call up data from the hard drive to compute and process, the CPU will transfer the data to RAM to compute. Then, after the calculation is complete, the CPU will transmit the result back to the hard drive for saving.

RAM (Pronounced ram) stands for random access memory, a component that allows your computer to store data short‐term for quicker access.

What are the main parts of the CPU?

The CPU is made up of three main components, the control unit , the immediate access store and the arithmetic and logic unit .
